  1. Peter Hurd on Paper

    March 30, 2018, 9:00 AM - August 12, 2018, 5:00 PM @ Roswell Museum and Art Center

During his tenure as a war art correspondent in the 1940s, Hurd began painting larger, finished works with watercolor, using the medium as a portable alternative to egg tempera. After World War II, Hurd continued creating larger watercolor paintings, and continued producing sketches and studies for later works. With their fluid, informal lines and energetic brushwork, Hurd’s works on paper offer an intimate, gestural foil to his egg tempera paintings. Drawn from the permanent collection, Peter Hurd on Paper invites viewers to explore the Roswell Museum and Art Center’s holdings of studies and finished watercolor paintings. Scheduled to be on view during the exhibition Magical and Real: Henriette Wyeth and Peter Hurd, A Retrospective, this installation is both a continuation of that show and an independent exhibition that can be enjoyed on its own. Learn more about Hurd’s working methods while exploring a range of his works. for more information call 575-624-6744.

    August 3, 2018, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Reischman Park

Our First Friday Downtown Market event is a volunteer-driven event sponsored by MainStreet Roswell and its stakeholders. Our goal is to create a fun way to bring the neighborhood together and introduce Roswell residents to all Downtown Roswell has to offer. With great local shopping and dining, as well as a strong art and music culture, this will provide a great way for people to connect and experience their community. Select merchants will stay open from 5 PM-8 PM (or later) every first Friday of the month. We want to create a monthly event that will grow into something great while encouraging people to shop downtown. Enjoy a meal from your favorite food truck. Relax and eat while enjoying music from local musicians in beautiful Reischman Park! Meet fellow residents and shop owners in the area. This is a wonderful community event!
